This year’s End of Year Concert certainly provided variety. The hard hitting ‘Fat of the Land’ got everybody thinking, with it’s up to the minute warning of what could very well happen in our own lifetime. The actors showed us a world of factory produced protein pills, where dinner parties were a thing of the past, and grass, trees, fruit, and flowers could only be seen in the history book.

This was a world of restrictive controls perpetuated by ‘a panel of experts’. The year 11 drama group were ably helped in their endeavours by year 10 drama students who played ‘the Harvesters’, a shadowy group, who had discovered that real food had survived in hidden corners of the world. It was their aim to try to bring about change.

Superb performances were provided by Ben Robson who became the youngest expert ever, and Holly Delefortrie who played his girl friend, secretly one of the Harvesters. Sam Rogers gave a convincing performance as Jon, his father, and Luke Demeranville was relaxed and very believable as ‘The Mentor’. Hope Johnson’s portrayal of Ali, the impressionable daughter caught up with the Harvesters was impressive.

This full length play which included dramatic lighting effects, and Innovative computer wizardry brought cheers of approval from the rest of the school, staff and some parents who had managed to slip in.

After a short interval, a play of a very different type was on offer. This was a farce featuring those famous detectives, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. Naturally it was a murder mystery, with interesting use of shadow theatre and plenty of ad-lib. Like the early offerings from Ealing Studios, the production boasted a laugh every minute and had the audience holding their sides and rolling in the gangways.

After the school poem, a regular spot at the end of term concerts, and some songs by the guitar class, members of staff, thinly disguised as a theatrical chorus provided a well co-ordinated dance routine which brought the event to an Hilarious end.
