Playing up the Shapwick slope is never easy and we were put under a lot
of pressure early on. A superb strike on the half-volley from a corner
put Chilton into a deserved lead after 10 mins and our defence were
under real pressure not to concede a second. Nick Downes, in his first
game of the season, held the defence together with superb support from
Michael Paz. We settled down to play some good football and after
passing the ball well in midfield, Peter Jenkins scored a deserved
equaliser.
After half-time we played our best football of the season with everyone
joining in and enjoying the game. When Peter scored his second goal our
confidence grew and our first victory seemed assured when John Pykett
slotted home a blatent penalty. There were still twists and turns
before the end and Ben Love had to pull off a superb penalty save to
secure the lead. Peter settled our nerves with the goal of the season
to round off a superb “hat-trick”.
The game finished 4-1 to Shapwick. A superb team performance allround. Well done Shapwick!
