Commission for Social Care Inspection.

The Commission for Social Care inspection took place in January 2007.

"The relationships between all staff and boarders are based upon mutual respect and trust and there is a communal approach to one another regardless of their position in the school. All of the boarders spoken with considered that they had developed in confidence and their academic achievements had also increased since attending the school.

The inspectors observed young people to be having fun during their free time and were well behaved. All of the boarding houses were comfortable with homely atmospheres that were appreciated by the boarders."

"Edington and Shapwick School is a very effective and successful school. The pupils make good progress both academically and socially as a result of very good quality teaching and a very good, well planned and flexible curriculum which is specifically designed to meet the particular needs of the pupils. Good quality residential provision is made for those pupils who board on a weekly or termly basis, usually because their homes are too far away to allow daily travel.”

Thanksgiving Service for Mrs Chubb

Sue Chubb, who worked at Shapwick School since the mid-1980s, passed peacefully away at home on the 7th May 2009. All pupils and staff at the specialist school for dyslexia were very saddened by the loss of such a popular and respected member of staff, and a special Thanksgiving Service was recently organised in St Mary’s Church, Shapwick to allow everyone to pay their last respects. 

Shapwick School retains Tug of War title

On Saturday 13th June Shapwick School pupils enjoyed ‘all the fun of the fair’ when they joined in the Shapwick village fete. The sun shone and everyone had a great time with the local community. 

Shapwick prepares for Art Day spectacular

Shapwick School Art Day is a totally unique event and one greatly enjoyed by the pupils, staff, and guests. Now in its tenth year, over twelve professional artists are already looking forward to taking part on Wednesday 8th July.

Shapwick School's Therapy Team work with University

The Therapy Team at Shapwick School has worked in partnership with the University College Plymouth St Mark and St John (MARJON) since 2006, and its links with the University are going from strength to strength. 

Shapwick pupils help reduce waste

Year 9 pupils from Shapwick School recently enjoyed a workshop led by The Somerset Waste Action Programme (SWAP) about composting.
