Yet again our students continue to outperform national averages, this year over 70% achieved five or more GCSE Grades A* to C.

This is a poem that one of our students wrote.
Today we went to Whatley Quarry,
On the way there we saw a lorry,

At our boarding house there are chickens, dens and acres of space to play ballgames, hide in trees, set up water slides and have BBQ's. Girls and boys enjoy playing games of football together, swinging on the tree swing or just relaxing outside.

Few of our students have been to the Dead Sea, but most have heard that swimmers float very easily in this extremely salty body of water.  Although the idea that salt increases buoyancy is intuitive for some people, students in 9S were recently given the task of proving it. 

Year ten art group spent an afternoon at Stock Hill Woods, following in the footsteps of Andy Goldsworthy.

To complete a term’s work based on sculpture, the year ten art group were treated to a film show showing the work of environmental artist, Andy Goldsworthy. Everyone enjoyed the film and it was suggested that the group should have a go at doing some ‘Goldsworthy’ type work for themselves.

An Oxford professor says the government may be wasting money on expensive special tuition for dyslexic pupils when many of them could be helped by cheap coloured spectacles.

A 3m programme to help dyslexic children who are struggling to read and write has been announced by the be announced by the Government.

Following a very successful reunion in the autumn term of 2006 we are proposing to hold another similar event on: Saturday 4th October 2008.

The Under 16 team took part in the annual National Independent School’s Association (ISA) 7 a side rugby championships at Old Leamington RFC in Warwickshire.  There were 20 schools in attendance and it was clear from the start that the Shapwick team would do well in the group stage.

As part of their Careers Education programme Year 9 pupils visited Cribbs Causeway Shopping Mall. After an introduction to retail by the mall’s management they conducted a range of surveys into such matters as facilities, retail practices and customer relations, in preparation for a presentation to fellow pupils in school.
